David Carson signs for South Shields FC

We are delighted to announce the signing of David Carson on a three-and-a-half-year deal, subject to international clearance and FA approval.

David Carson returns to the Mariners after departing 7 years ago, where he went on to have an impressive career in Scottish football.

Carson (29) signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2019 and went on to feature over 100 times for the Scottish Championship side, playing against the likes of Celtic and Rangers.

In 2021/22, David made over 40 appearances at Caley Thistle and reached the final of the Premiership Play-offs. David was named the Fans’ Player of the Year for 2021/22 for his performances, for a second season in a row.

David reached his 100th game for the club at the start of the 2022/23 season in July against Queen’s Park.  During 2022/23, David featured in 45 matches, and he scored an 88th minute winner against Greenock Morton in a 2-1 win for his second goal at the club.

Carson then went on to sign for Livingston on deadline day later this year, making 12 appearances for the club.

An experienced midfielder who has worked with South Shields manager Elliott Dickman before during his time in the Sunderland AFC youth setup, Carson is looking to get started as soon as he can for the Mariners.

“I’m delighted to be here and to see the club again and I’m looking forward to getting back on the grass.

The gaffer has put his stamp across how the team plays and what he wants me to do within that, so really positive stuff.

I’ve worked with Elliott before, he knows my game, I know the way he works so I’m really looking forward to getting out there”

Elliott Dickman gave us his thoughts on his latest recruit.

“We are thrilled and delighted that David has agreed to join us, pending FA Approval and International Clearance.

David has excellent qualities as a player and we are all excited and looking forward to working with him.”

David will be eligible to play for the Mariners when he is cleared internationally and his signing is approved by the FA.
