Abusada: "The battle isn't over" for SSFC Women despite Alnwick loss

Cat Abusada insists “the battle isn’t over” despite South Shields Women falling to their fourth defeat in five matches so far this year.

Sunday saw the lasses lose 3-1 to Alnwick Town Ladies in what was described as a “disappointing” performance, although Zoe Norton got on the scoresheet towards the end.

She said: “This past weekend’s result was disappointing, especially since we controlled the game well in the first-half but couldn’t capitalise on our opportunities.

“That said, the determination within the squad is strong; the battle isn’t over, and we’ll keep fighting until the very end.”

It is important for the team to remain focused on the process and that is no exception this time around.

“During rough patches, staying united as a team is essential,” she asserted.

“By supporting each other and addressing our challenges together, we can continue to grow and improve.

“Staying focused and maintaining a strong team spirit will help us push through and come back stronger.”

Some can look back to January’s 2-1 away win against previously undefeated Chester-le-Street Town Ladies for motivation, given that result showed just how capable the team can be when on form.

She continued: “Our performance against Chester-le-Street was a testament to our strength as a team and what we're capable of achieving.

“I look back at that game as a reminder of the energy and intensity we need to bring into our future matches.”

This Sunday sees Bradford City AFC Women make the trip to Harton Welfare for a 2pm kick-off.

The Bantams have won their last eight league fixtures, with the last team to take points from them being the Mariners, when they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Horsfall Stadium.

“I'm feeling confident about this weekend,” Abusada finished.

“Each week in training is a building block for us, and I believe all the hard work we've put in will come together in this game.

“Playing at home is always exciting, and we're eager to show everyone the team we are.”
