Centre-back Ben’s involvement with Shields stretches back as far as 2008, when he was a fresh-faced teenager looking to make his first steps in senior football.
He is now onto his third spell with the club, and made his 100th appearance for the Mariners during the 2015-16 season.
Strong in the air, comfortable on the ball and always a goal threat, Ben would be a valuable member of any team.
He can also fill in at left-back when required and possesses an impressive long throw, which has often been a potent weapon for Shields.
He started his third spell at the club in January 2015, joining from Bishop Auckland. That move revealed all you needed to know about what the club means to Ben, as he was dropping down a division and joining a side playing its home games 20 miles away, in Peterlee.
His gamble was rewarded when the club returned home to Mariners Park four months later, and after battling his way into the team at the start of the 2015-16 season, he stayed there.
He was a key member of the title-winning outfit as Shields returned to Northern League Division One in style.
Some of Ben’s finest moments in a Shields shirt came in his second spell, while the club was playing in Peterlee.
He scored on his second debut for the club, while towards the end of the season, he netted a hat-trick of headers in a memorable 4-3 victory over Chester-le-Street Town at Peterlee.
In his first spell, meanwhile, he even ended up in goal during one game, before his time at the club was cruelly cut short by a leg break.
