Northallerton Town vs South Shields Preview
By Daniel Prince
South Shields play the latest of their games in hand tomorrow (Wednesday) when they travel to Northallerton Town.
Shields won 3-1 at Stokesley Sports Club on Saturday, but lost 4-2 in Monday’s South Tyneside derby at Jarrow Roofing.
However, there is no letting up in their hectic fixture schedule, with the long trip to Northallerton the latest challenge for Jon King’s side.
The end is now in sight for the Mariners, with eight games left to play before the season is out.
Monday’s defeat kept them 16th in Northern League Division Two, but Shields continue to chase those immediately above them.
Northallerton, meanwhile, are seventh, 18 points ahead of the Mariners having played four games more.
The sides met on the opening day of the season at Peterlee’s Eden Lane, and a hard-fought game ended in a 2-2 draw.
However, when they last faced each other, a one-sided game ensued.
Northallerton triumphed 6-2 at Eden Lane in November’s Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup tie.
However, they are not in great form, and have won just twice in their last eight games.
Shields, meanwhile, could be forced into a number of changes from Monday’s outing due to work commitments, with the game set to kick-off at 7.45pm.
