Match Preview: West Auckland Town vs South Shields

South Shields will aim to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they visit West Auckland Town in Northern League Division One.

The Mariners have drawn their last two matches, but remain top of the table.

On Tuesday, they will come up against a side sitting bottom on three points, having been beaten 9-0 at Washington on Saturday.

That result led to the departure of manager Andy Campbell, but Shields joint manager Graham Fenton insists West cannot be taken lightly.

Indeed, he thinks they could be even more dangerous opponents following Saturday’s result.

However, Shields’ own motivation is high after they conceded a late equaliser to Newcastle Benfield on Saturday.

Fenton said: “When a team comes off a spanking, it’s never good to get them next because they’ll want to put it right.

“To the same degree, although we didn’t lose on Saturday and we weren’t beaten heavily, it felt like a defeat for us as well.

“They’ll be looking for a reaction and we’re certainly looking for a reaction, so it’s going to be an interesting game.”

Kick-off at WSI Stadium, which has a post code of DL14 9AQ, is at 7.30pm.
