Match Preview: Tow Law Town vs South Shields

After securing promotion on Thursday, South Shields will continue on their quest to win the league title when they travel to Tow Law Town on Saturday.

Ryhope CW look like their most realistic rival for the championship, with the Wearside club currently 16 points behind the Mariners with three games in hand.

Shields have just five games left to play, and know three victories from those will seal the title.

On Saturday, they will be facing a Tow Law Town side which they beat 9-1 at Mariners Park in November.

That is Shields’ biggest victory of the season so far, and was also watched by the largest crowd, with 1,412 packing into the ground.

However, Tow Law have proved themselves to be better than that scoreline suggests this season, and go into Saturday’s game 14th in the table on 45 points.

HOW TO GET THERE

With promotion assured, there could be another big travelling support following the Mariners on Saturday.

Tow Law Town play their home games at The Addison Arena, which is on Ironworks Road, Tow Law, County Durham, and has a post code of DL13 4EQ.

On street parking outside the ground is limited, but a small car park is situated at the top of the bank, next to the community centre, which holds about 20 cars. A further area of land is available for parking at the rear of the Co-op supermarket, 47 High St, Tow Law, County Durham, DL13 4DH. This is about a 150m walk along a footpath to the ground. To assist admission to the ground, Tow Law will sell entry tickets prior to kick off in the bar and open a ticket-only turnstile.

Those looking to travel there by car face a journey of about 28 miles, which should take in the region of 50 minutes.

The quickest route is to follow the A194(M) and A1(M) before, at junction 63, taking the A693/A167 exit to Stanley/Chester-le-Street. Stay on the A167 until you turn onto the A691. Continue on Front Street until taking the B6301 to Castle Bank/A68 in Tow Law. Turn left onto Castle Bank/A68, and then turn right onto Ironworks Road, where you will find the ground.

THOUGHTS AHEAD OF THE GAME

Jon King, South Shields manager: “It was fantastic to secure promotion on Thursday, but the next objective is to win the league now. I told the lads after the win at Easington to enjoy the night, but we want to win the title. The title is still not over and done with, because the chasing pack are all still winning. We need to get another three wins to move onto 101 points and secure the championship. We’ve just got to look at the next game, win that and move onto the next one.”
