Match Preview: South Shields vs Shildon

A huge game lies in store at Mariners Park on Saturday as South Shields take on Shildon in a clash of two Northern League Division One title contenders (3pm kick-off)

Shields go into the game second in the table, eight points behind leaders North Shields with two games in hand.

Defending champions Shildon, meanwhile, are nine points behind the Mariners, but have played one match less.

A win for Shields would make it a club-record 21 in a row.

ADMISSION

As this is a league match, season tickets, junior and corporate senior passes are valid.

No tickets have otherwise been sold, so this is a game at which supporters can simply pay their entrance fee at the turnstiles.

THOUGHTS AHEAD OF THE GAME

Lee Picton, South Shields joint manager: “It’s a fantastic achievement to win 20 games in a row, and I think over those 20 games, the lads deserve a huge amount of credit. They’ve not only had 20 wins in a row, which speaks for itself, but the quality of the vast majority of those performances have been outstanding. We’ve just got to try and make it 21 now on Saturday. It’s obviously a massive game against Shildon. Three points on Saturday would put us in a really good position moving forwards. We’re looking forward to having another great crowd at Mariners Park on Saturday and the fans can give us an extra lift.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The club has been given an allocation of away tickets by Sunderland RCA for the league game there on Saturday, March 4. The tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, and are being sold in a bid to ease congestion at the turnstiles on the day. Admission can still be paid at the gate, but to ensure quick entry, the club has asked if we can sell tickets to supporters. The tickets will be available at the ticket office at Saturday’s game.

In addition, seats on a supporters’ coach to Tuesday’s Durham Challenge Cup semi-final at Consett are also available at the ticket office. They’re priced at £5 for members and £6 for non-members, and can also be bought over the phone by calling 0191 454 7800.

A very limited number of programmes re-printed from last Saturday’s Buildbase FA Vase quarter-final against Newport Pagnell Town will also be available at the ticket office.
