Match Preview: South Shields vs Dunston UTS
Dunston UTS are the visitors to Mariners Park on Saturday as South Shields aim to make it four wins in a row in all competitions.
Last week’s 6-0 victory over Guisborough Town left Shields second in Northern League Division One, eight points behind leaders North Shields but with two games in hand.
They will be taking on a Dunston side in good form, with Chris Swailes’ side unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, having won three of their last four.
Shields joint manager Graham Fenton knows his side will have to hit good form if they are to claim another three points.
He said: “Dunston have picked up recently, and gave us a difficult game at their place. We’re certainly not going to take the game lightly.
“We’re expecting a difficult one, but if we turn up like we did last Saturday, they’re going to have their hands full trying to stop us.”
Fenton is hoping Shields can pick up where they left off last week.
He added: “Last week’s performance and result was really pleasing.
“We asked for a better performance than the one against Blyth Town, and I thought the lads were brilliant from the start.
“We scored really early to get in front, and from there we didn’t really look back.
“There were some very pleasing aspects of our play, and I thought the third goal was absolutely magnificent. The other goals on top of that were really pleasing as well.
“We’re certainly looking for a similar sort of performance on Saturday.”
Shields remain without Leepaul Scroggins, Gavin Cogdon and Louis Storey, but Darren Holden is available to make his debut after joining from Jarrow Roofing.
