Match Preview: South Shields vs Brandon United

Match Preview: South Shields vs Brandon United

South Shields will aim to move to within one win of promotion on Tuesday when they face Brandon United at Mariners Park.

Shields defeated Stokesley Sports Club 3-0 on Saturday as they made it 10 league wins in 11 games.

However, they will not be taking Tuesday’s opponents lightly, with Brandon having enjoyed a more than satisfactory campaign.

Last term, they finished bottom of the table on just 16 points, but avoided relegation because of the inability of the sides in promotion positions in the leagues below to accept promotion due to ground grading issues.

Brandon have taken full advantage of that reprieve, and are on 40 points ahead of their visit to Mariners Park, where they will feel they have little to lose.

This will be one of two games in three days for Shields, who will visit Easington Colliery on Thursday.

With just three home games left, including this one, there could be another bumper crowd at Mariners Park. Admission prices are £5 for adults, £3 for students and over-65s, and £1 for under-16s. Admission is paid for at the turnstiles on the day of the game. A crowd of 211 or more would see the overall attendance at Mariners Park since returning last summer – including friendlies – pass beyond the 20,000 mark. Here are some details on how to get to the ground for those who have not yet attended.
