Match Preview: Shildon vs South Shields – League Cup semi-final

South Shields have another semi-final to contend with on Wednesday when they travel to Shildon in the League Cup.

The Mariners will be aiming to reach their third final of the season, having already done so in the Durham Challenge Cup and FA Vase.

After the euphoria of Saturday’s FA Vase semi-final win over Coleshill Town, the players returned to training on Monday to prepare for the trip to Dean Street.

Joint manager Lee Picton is expecting a difficult encounter at a venue Shields won 1-0 at in the league in October.

He said: “We’re in four competitions and our aim is to try and win all four.

“The lads thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, but were back in on Monday to prepare as well as we could for the League Cup semi-final, which is going to be another tough game.”

Striker David Foley also says it is very much back to business for the Mariners.

He said: “We’ve got to get back down to earth very quickly.

“We have that prize of the FA Vase final at Wembley to look forward to at the end of the season, but it’s two months away and we’ve still got a lot to concentrate on.

“We’re still in the league and two other cup competitions, and the Vase is just the icing on the cake.”

Kick-off at Dean Street – which has a post code of DL4 1HA – is at 7.30pm.
