MATCH PREVIEW: Hednesford Town vs South Shields, Evo-Stik Premier Division
South Shields face one of their longest journeys of the season on Saturday when they travel to Hednesford Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
The Mariners will be looking to register their third away win of the season at Keys Park against a side which sits six points behind them in the table.
Hednesford are 13th, having picked up 15 points from their opening 11 games.
Shields go into the match looking to improve their away form. They have won two and lost four of their six matches on the road so far.
Hednesford, meanwhile, have won one and lost three of their four home games, so both teams will be looking for improvement.
The Mariners are in confident mood following last Saturday’s 5-0 win over Grantham Town at Mariners Park, and joint manager Graham Fenton is hoping they will build on that performance.
He said: “We’re always confident, and hopefully last week just solidified with the lads that if we do the basics and get our structure right, we’re going to be a handful for anybody.
“The scoreline last week has given everyone a boost.
“We went into it off the back of a bit of poor form, so to bounce back so strongly was really pleasing.
“We did a lot of talking ahead of the Grantham game to address the issues we had over the previous matches, when we had been forced into some different shapes because of the personnel we had available.
“We just went back to what we know and what we’ve been doing well over the last couple of years.
“We went back to basics and nailed down players’ roles and responsibilities.
“We were delighted with the response.”
Hednesford Town play at Keys Park, on Keys Park Road, Hednesford, which has a post code of WS12 2DZ.
Shields go into the match without long-term injured duo Anthony Callaghan and Barrie Smith.
Kick-off is at 3pm.
