Match Preview: Farsley Celtic vs South Shields, Buildbase FA Trophy
South Shields take on Farsley Celtic for the second time in less than a fortnight on Saturday when the two sides go head-to-head in the Buildbase FA Trophy.
Shields got the better of Farsley on penalties in the first round of the Integro League Challenge Cup at Mariners Park on Tuesday, October 17, after the teams drew 2-2 after 90 minutes.
They are now set to battle it out for a place in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy at Farsley Celtic’s Throstle Nest ground.
The Mariners made it through the preliminary round with a 5-2 victory at Scarborough Athletic, while Farsley had a bye through to the first qualifying round.
Farsley are fourth in the EVO-STIK Premier Division, having won promotion via the play-offs from EVO-STIK North last season.
WHAT WE’RE SAYING
South Shields joint manager Lee Picton said: “We were pleased with a number of aspects of the game against Jarrow Roofing in the Durham Challenge Cup on Tuesday.
“A number of those we gave an opportunity to definitely took their chance, and the more players we can have in the squad that are in a bit of form, the better.
“Again, we’ve got some tough decisions to make ahead of what’s going to be a really difficult game at Farsley Celtic on Saturday.
“We played them in the Integro Cup earlier this month, but this time we’re away from home, so that will pose a different test for us.
“Although they fielded quite a few players who had started in their previous league game when they came up here, there will be changes from the team we played against.
“I’ve got no idea what their mentality towards the Integro Cup was, so they may well come with a more serious mentality towards Saturday’s game, I don’t know.
“I don’t think we can take a huge amount from the game we played against them a week or so ago.
“Their position in the table in the EVO-STIK Premier Division doesn’t lie. They’re in the top four and are there for a reason.
“We’ve got to give them respect for that, and are going to have to be at our best to get the right result.”
