Match preview: Chester-le-Street Town vs South Shields
South Shields will aim to build on Tuesday’s first win of the season when they travel to Chester-le-Street on Saturday.
Kick-off at Moor Park (DH2 3RW) is at 3pm, with the Mariners taking on a side which was promoted with them from Northern League Division Two last season.
Shields beat Chester-le-Street four times in all competitions last season, but on each occasion, the Cestrians put up a good fight.
Mariners assistant manager Lee Picton is expecting that to be the case again on Saturday.
He said: “We’ve got two games in three days, with Penrith to follow this one on Monday.
“It’s never easy to go to Chester-le-Street or Penrith, so they will be two good tests.
“Hopefully we can be spurred on from what happened on Tuesday in the win over Seaham Red Star, and another four or six points from these two games would set us up nicely.”
Carl Finnigan and Ben Clark are available to make their Shields debuts at Moor Park after the Northern League confirmed their registrations on Friday.
Ahead of the game, Chester-le-Street have released some important information for supporters about parking and alcohol. That can be read here.
Admission prices at the ground are £6 for adults and £3 for over-65s, while it is free for under-16s. We would very much appreciate your support.
Places on a supporters’ coach to the game – which will depart Mariners Park at 1.30pm and costs £7 per person for SSFC Members and £10 for non-members – are available by calling 0191 454 7800.
Meanwhile, supporters looking for a pre-match or post-match drink are advised that the Church Mouse and Chester Moor pubs are on Front Street, on the road just outside the ground.
