Mariners to host Hartlepool United in Durham Challenge Cup

South Shields have been drawn against Hartlepool United in the quarter-final of the Durham Challenge Cup.

The tie is due to be played by Saturday, February 4.

Pools often use the competition as an opportunity to blood young players and reserves, but it is still sure to be another good occasion at Mariners Park.

The game could see David Foley and Darren Holden come up against the club they started their professional careers with.

Foley represented Pools for seven years between 2003 and 2010, and remains their youngest-ever player, having played for them at the age of 16.

Holden, meanwhile, played for Hartlepool between 2010 and 2015, and spent a significant period as the club’s first-choice left-back.

Foley is already looking forward to the game.

The in-form forward said: “It’s going to be nice.

“I was there for a long time, so it will be nice to come up against them. You still want to get one over on them.”

Meanwhile, the rest of the quarter-final ties are as follows:

Chester-Le-Street v Consett

Newton Aycliffe v Seaham Red Star

Shildon v Billingham Synthonia
