Mariners drawn against Charnock Richard or Staveley MW in FA Vase
South Shields have been drawn to play host to Charnock Richard or Staveley Miners Welfare in the third round of the Buildbase FA Vase.
The tie is set to be played at Mariners Park on the weekend of December 3, 2016.
The original second round tie between Charnock Richard and Staveley MW was postponed on Saturday, and has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
Charnock Richard are third in the North West Counties League Division One, while Staveley are 12th in the Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division.
The Mariners, meanwhile, reached this stage of the competition with a 2-0 victory over Marske United at Mariners Park on Saturday.
Goals in the first 20 minutes by Carl Finnigan and David Foley sealed Shields’ victory.
Joint manager Graham Fenton was left delighted with the performance.
He said: “It’s all about just getting through, but the manner of the win was very pleasing.
“We know how good Marske can be on their day, and I thought we nullified their strengths really well.
“We moved the ball really well and opened them up on numerous occasions.
“It could have been any sort of score if our finishing had been a little bit sharper, but 2-0 against Marske is always a very good scoreline.
“We knew the performance, up to a point, was pretty good against North Shields last week as well, so we certainly weren’t hitting any panic buttons after that.
“It was vital we bounced back against Marske, though, and I thought we did it in some style.”
There are 64 teams left in the FA Vase, with the Mariners in the northern zone at this stage of the competition.
The other third round ties involving Northern League clubs are:
North Shields vs Shildon
Newton Aycliffe vs Morpeth Town
Penrith vs Atherton Collieries
Dunston UTS or Hemsworth MW vs Sunderland RCA
Bottesford Town vs Billingham Town
