Mariners drawn against Garforth Town in FA Cup first qualifying round

South Shields have been handed a home tie against Garforth Town in the first qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The tie is due to be played at Mariners Park on the weekend of Saturday, September 8.

Garforth play in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, and are 15th in the table having picked up four points from four games.

Shields will be hoping for a strong run in this season’s competition, having reached the fourth qualifying round a year ago.

They defeated Bridlington Town, Witton Albion, Darlington and York City before losing narrowly to Hartlepool United at Mariners Park.

Garforth are competing in the first qualifying round for the first time since 2012.

They got the better of Bridlington – one of Shields’ opponents in last season’s FA Cup run – 2-1 on Saturday thanks to a last minute goal from Albert Ibrahimi.
