Lawson rejoins Shields

By Daniel Prince

League Cup-winning goalkeeper Niki Lawson has rejoined South Shields.

The stopper, whose saves were crucial in 2010 as Shields beat Ashington on penalties to win the competition (see pictures above and below), will provide competition for Steven Hubery.

He will be warmly welcomed back to the club following his 2010 heroics against Ashington at Dunston UTS, and could make his second debut for the Mariners in tomorrow’s Ebac Northern League Division Two match at Birtley Town.

Niki originally joined Shields in 2009 from Spennymoor Town, and he made 26 appearances (21 in the league) in his season at the club. He kept three clean sheets, including one in the quarter-final of the League Cup against Tow Law Town.

His first debut for the club came in a 1-0 victory over Dunston UTS in October 2009.
