Goalkeeper Joss Carmichael joins club from Washington
The club is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Joss Carmichael.
Joss, who also had a spell at Mariners Park in the 2010-11 season, has rejoined the club from Washington.
He played for the Mariners in the second half of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Whitby Town, and says he cannot wait to get started in his second spell with the club.
The 28-year-old, from South Shields, said: “I’m very excited.
“Everyone knows what’s happening at Shields. It’s hopefully going to be a big club and they’re looking to go a long way, so it’s a great excitement to be part of it.
“I absolutely loved my first spell here. It’s a great club with great fans.
“It was a shame what happened with the enforced move to Peterlee, but they seem to be going the right way now and it’s fantastic to be a part of what’s happening.”
Joss is now set to link up again with Shields goalkeeping coach Simon Parkin, who was a player for the club in his first spell at Mariners Park.
He added: “I can’t wait to work with Simon.
“Everyone knows that he’s a character and great in the dressing room.
“It will be a pleasure working with him again. He has got a lot to pass on.”
Joss will also renew links with fellow goalkeeper Liam Connell.
He said: “I’ve been at Dunston with Liam, and we started at Chester-le-Street together, which was a good 10 years ago. I’ve known him for a long time.
“He’s a very good goalkeeper and it will be a good battle.
“It’s good to have competition, and hopefully that will push me on, and we’ll have a good fight for the No1 jersey.”
As well as Dunston UTS and Washington, Joss has played for Sunderland RCA during his time away from Mariners Park.
Welcome back to the club, and we wish you all the best for your time here!
