FA Cup trip to Cheltenham set to go ahead

The FA has confirmed that Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie between Cheltenham Town and South Shields will go ahead as planned.

There had been uncertainty as to whether the first round match would take place following the latest lockdown measures announced by the Government on Saturday.

The Mariners are one of 10 clubs remaining in the competition that are classed as “non-elite”, but the UK Government has confirmed they will all be able to play their matches under “elite” protocols.

All round one fixtures will be played behind closed doors but a live stream is expected to be available for supporters to watch, with further details set to be announced later this week.

Clarity is awaited on the ramifications of Saturday’s Government announcement on league fixtures.
