FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
The Mariners make the 220-mile round trip to Colne in Lancashire on Saturday, August 17 for the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Tie against Colne FC, of the North West Counties League Premier Division.
Colne is situated five miles from Burnley, and is the second largest town in the borough of Pendle, and a former mill town with a population of 19,000.
The club play at the Holt House Stadium, situated on Harrison Drive (BB8 9SF, telephone number 01282 862545) and was formed in 1996, six years after the demise of the former Colne Dynamoes FC.
The ‘Reds’, as the club are known, finished with a 14th league table position last season, and are currently in 17th place, with three points from three games.
Their best to date FA Cup performance was in 2005, when the club reached the second qualifying round.
Ground capacity is currently 1,800, and the largest attendance to date is 1,742 which was reached in 2004. The average gate last season was 72.
The club has a reserve side and an academy, and plans are in being for an upgrade in ground capacity to 3,000 with a stadium development programme.
Shields are team building and new faces are currently being added to the squad, and they are hopeful of producing a good performance, for which all Mariners supporters wish them well and good luck.
