South Shields have been handed a mouth-watering home tie against Hartlepool United in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Mariners earned a dramatic 3-2 win over York City on Saturday to progress to this stage of the famous cup competition for the first time since reforming in 1974.
They are now bidding to reach the first round proper for the first time, an achievement which would put them in the hat with Football League clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic – who won the competition in 2013.
To do so, they will have to overcome Pools in a tie due to be played on the weekend of Saturday, October 14.
Hartlepool play in the National League, and currently sit 18th after 13 games.
The date and kick-off time of the match will be confirmed in due course, as will ticketing details.
As a result of the club’s FA Cup run, the home league game against Tadcaster Albion – originally scheduled for Saturday, October 14 – will be rearranged, with a new date to be announced in due course. If you are booked in hospitality for that game, it will automatically carry over until whenever the rearranged fixture takes place.
