David Lynch appointed Head of Academy and First-Team Recruitment
David Lynch has been appointed as the club’s Head of Academy and First Team Recruitment.
A former Blackburn Rovers scout, Lynch was most recently Head of Player Recruitment at Scarborough Athletic and is relishing the opportunity to help drive the Mariners forward.
He will work alongside the management teams at Academy and first-team level on identifying potential new players, analysing matches and scouting opposition teams as a big effort is made to grow that aspect of the club.
Lynch, from Whitburn, is also a successful entrepreneur, having set up his own business in 2009 and driven it to a position where it enjoys a seven-figure turnover.
The business now has an experienced management team in place which over the last two years has given him an opportunity to focus on his other real passion, football.
Lynch said: “It has always been my ambition to work in football full-time and this is a fantastic opportunity for me to do that at a brilliant club.
“After meeting with the management it quickly became clear how much ambition there was to move forward both on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to now be part of the team helping to drive that.
“I’m very excited about the future and the scope we have to grow the recruitment side of the club.
“I leave Scarborough with a heavy heart as I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club – albeit shorter than expected – and met lots of fantastic people there, especially the manager Darren Kelly who is a fantastic person and a real asset to the club, but this was a chance I simply could not turn down.
“I’ve got a chance to really get my teeth into something here at a massively ambitious club which is local to me.”
Lynch played football in the Wearside and Northern Leagues and is studying for his coaching badges, having coached a younger age grassroots team in the past.
He has already started to formulate a recruitment plan at Academy level alongside Wess Brown and Jon Shaw, and with Lee Picton and Graham Fenton at first-team level.
He has significant experience in the game, having completed his FA Talent Identification Level 1 and 2 before working as a scout at Blackburn Rovers, where his remit ranged from Under-14s to the first-team.
Lynch will now work on building a scouting network at South Shields as a large emphasis is placed on recruitment, which is such a vital part of any football club.
