Consett trip in Durham Challenge Cup semi-final

South Shields have been drawn away to Consett in the semi-final of the Durham Challenge Cup.

It will be the fifth time in the last two seasons that the Mariners have played on the 3G surface at Belle View.

It promises to be an interesting clash between the two highest-ranking teams left in the competition.

While Shields are second in Northern League Division One, Consett are five places behind them, having picked up 52 points from their 30 games.

If the semi-final is anything close to a repeat of the encounter between Consett and Shields on the opening day of the league season, fans will be in for a treat.

The Mariners came from 3-1 down to claim a 3-3 draw, with Jon Shaw hitting a stoppage time equaliser at Belle View.

The semi-final is expected to take place on Tuesday, February 28, but official confirmation is expected to follow in due course.

The other last four tie, meanwhile, sees Newton Aycliffe come up against Division Two outfit Billingham Synthonia.
