Colne 1-1 South Shields

South Shields have to try again on Tuesday night in their attempt to progress in the FA Cup following a draw away at Colne on Saturday.

Shields started the game on the front foot as Chris Feasey attacked down the left flank before crossing the ball for Barrie Smith but Smith fired his shot just over the bar.

Shields maintained the pressure on their hosts and again Feasey jinked down the flank before playing the ball into the path of Tito Davidson and he in turn found Barrie Smith in space but Smith fire wide of the post.

On the quarter hour Colne pressed forward as Taylor found Hart in space on the edge of the box but the striker was unable to trouble Jak Wells in the Shields goal.

Shields responded instantly, Chris Feasey fired the ball into the box for Adam Sharp but he headed over the bar.

Chris Feasey was proving to be a thorn in the side of Colne and on twenty minutes he combined with Sharp to release Joe Dan Quah but he fired his shot just over the bar from 20 yards.

On 23 minutes on a Colne were awarded a penalty, Jason Hart fired the ball towards the bottom right corner but he was denied by a good save from Jak Wells.

On the half hour Adam Sharp picked the ball up on the edge of the box turned past his marker before firing a shot over the bar.

On 35 mins a scramble in the Shields box almost resulted in an opening goal for the hosts but a goal line clearance by Colin White kept the sides level.

As the clock approached the 40 min mark Shields thought they had taken the lead as Paul Kane released Tito Davidson and he fired the ball past Thompson only to be denied by the off side flag.

In the last minute of the first half Chris Feasey crossed the ball into the centre of the park to Stephen Ramsey; Ramsey fired a shot on the turn that eluded the dive of Thompson to take Shields into the break a goal to the good.

The players returned to the pitch to face a torrential downpour, the second half took some time to take shape as the sides struggled in the poor conditions.

As the hour mark approached Tito Davidson released Chris Feasey but his shot was well saved by Thompson.

Colne responded instantly as Evans picked the ball up on the edge of the Shields box before firing a shot at goal that as well saved by Jak Wells.

Within a minute Wells was in action again as he saved well from Taylor.

At the midpoint of the second half Chris Feasey floated a corner into the box and Adam Sharp headed the ball down for Paul Kane but his shot was blocked by the defence and the danger cleared.

A minute later a long throw into the box by Colin White was headed down by Paul Kane for Stephen Ramsey but again the Colne defence held firm and the danger was cleared.

With the second half 30 mins old Adam Sharp played the ball to Sean Sweeney and he brushed of the challenge of the defence before firing a shot at goal that was well saved by Thompson.

A minute later and again Shields were denied as Feasey and Davidson combined to release Luke Richardson but his shot was again well saved by Thompson.

With the game in the last 5 mins a through ball by Hoskin found Hart in space and the striker made up for his earlier penalty miss as he slid the ball under the advancing Wells to restore parity and take the game to a replay on Tuesday night at Peterlee 8:00 pm kick off.
