David Fall is a vital member of the behind-the-scenes team at Mariners Park, who has a long history with South Shields FC – and football as a whole.
In November 1966, he passed his referees’ exam, and thereafter officiated in local leagues, including the Wearside League and Northern League.
His refereeing career continued until March 1991, meaning he had served for 25 years. He also retired from the South Shields Referees’ Society at this stage.
David – born in 1947 – joined South Shields FC as secretary ahead of the 1992-93 season, and remained in position until retiring in February 2006.
He returned to the club as treasurer in 2013 following the tragic death of Kevin Law, and held the role for the Mariner’s enforced two-year stay in Peterlee.
During that time, David was involved heavily in negotiations to bring the club back into the town, and first met with future chairman Geoff Thompson during the Christmas period of 2014.
