Club confirms Hillsborough tribute

South Shields FC can confirm next month’s derby against North Shields will kick off seven minutes late as a tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, subject to league approval.

Earlier this month, the Premier League, Football League and Conference confirmed all fixtures on the weekend of 11-14 April would kick off seven minutes later than originally scheduled.

A minute’s silence is also to be held prior to all games held on the weekend.

That is as a mark of respect to the 96 Liverpool supporters who lost their lives at Hillsborough, with April 15 marking 25 years since the disaster.

The FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest ended at 3.06pm on that fateful day after a crush on the terraces.

The minute’s silence will be held across all fixtures six minutes after the original kick-off time.

The two Shields sides go head-to-head on April 12 at Peterlee’s Eden Lane, and subject to league confirmation, the match will kick off at 3.07pm.
