Club appoints Joanne Howe as Non-Executive Director
Joanne Howe has been appointed to the board of directors at South Shields Football Club after accepting a non-executive director role.
A proud Sanddancer, Joanne is a long-term supporter and sponsor of the club and has a substantial background in human resources (HR) and business management.
Joanne is managing director at Howe Consultancy, supporting a range of public and private sector organisations with HR, compliance, performance, mentoring and improvements.
She has also worked as a business improvement consultant for Bluebird Care (South Tyneside and Newcastle) and The Community Network, and has held HR positions with numerous other organisations across four decades, including South Tyneside College and South Tyneside Council.
Joanne will bring her extensive experience to her advisory role at 1st Cloud Arena as she joins Geoff Thompson, Lee Picton, Keith Finnigan, Gary Crutwell and fellow non-executive director Paul Macpherson on the board.
She said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed as a non-executive director at my hometown football club.
“The club has very ambitious plans for growth on and off the pitch, and over the next few years it is aiming to become an integrated part of our social and business communities in South Tyneside.
“There are exciting times ahead and I am delighted to be part of it.”
Joanne’s relationship with the club was strengthened by her attendance at a number of business seminars, and she counts her visit to Wembley to cheer on the Mariners at the FA Vase final in 2017 as one of her favourite moments.
Joanne enjoys working strategically with her clients and is looking forward to making a valuable contribution to the growth plans of the club. As well as providing HR support to businesses she has developed a number of mentoring programmes for leaders and managers to help them improve and practice joined up thinking in their own business.
South Shields FC chief executive Lee Picton said: “In my opinion, to have someone with Joanne’s experience and particular skill set on board with us at the club will prove invaluable moving forwards.
“She undoubtedly has the club’s best interests at heart, and will provide added value, specifically in areas such as our HR function, staff recruitment and the upskilling of our existing workforce.
“We are always looking at ways to improve what we do as a club, and the appointment of Joanne as a non-executive director at the club is a really positive step in helping us deliver on this.”
