Brandon match postponed at Mariners Park

Saturday’s Ebac Northern League Division Two match between South Shields and Brandon United was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Rainfall on the morning of the match had affected the playing surface at Mariners Park, but after much work went on, it was playable by 1pm.

By the time the referee had arrived at 2pm, though, there had been further rainfall, with the pitch again left in a poor state.

However, the referee decided to give the game “every chance”, and indicated he did not wish to make a decision until as close to kick-off time as possible.

However, at about 2.45pm, the referee opted to do another lap of the pitch, and after completing that, he made the decision to postpone the game.
