Birtley in quarter-final

By Daniel Prince

South Shields have been drawn to face Birtley Town in the quarter-final of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup.

A date has not yet been set for the tie, which will take place at Birtley Sports Complex.

Shields made it through to the last eight of the competition with a 1-0 win over Tow Law Town on November 18, with David Molloy scoring the only goal.

Jon King’s side will be hoping to fare better than they did on their last two visits to Birtley, which both ended in 3-1 defeats.

The most recent of those came on November 15, when Molloy gave Shields a half-time lead before Birtley seized the three points in the second half.

Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup quarter-final draw in full: Birtley Town vs South Shields, Billingham Town vs Chester-le-Street Town, Thornaby vs Norton and Stockton Ancients, Darlington RA or Team Northumbria vs Washington.
