Arron Thompson leaves Mariners
Arron Thompson has left South Shields FC after a mutual agreement was reached to end his contract.
The midfielder made 19 appearances for the first-team after graduating from the club’s Academy in 2019.
The difficult decision not to offer the 20-year-old a new contract for the 2021-22 season was made earlier this month and it has now been mutually agreed to part ways immediately so he is free to explore other opportunities.
Thompson leaves with a glowing reference from manager Graham Fenton and the genuine best wishes and thanks of everyone connected to the club.
Fenton said: “It’s really sad that it has come to an end with Arron Thompson.
“He has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has represented the club unbelievably well during his time with the Academy and the first-team.
“I’m sure he will go on to do well because of his attitude, application and ability.
“Unfortunately he won’t be continuing on the journey with us at this time but you never know what might happen in the future.
“He is a diamond of a person and whichever club he goes to will have a really good player on their hands.”
