South Shields claimed a vital three points on Saturday as they defeated Chester-le-Street Town 2-0.

Goals from David Foley and Martyn Coleman moved the Mariners eight points clear at the top of Ebac Northern League Division Two.

Manager Jon King insisted the result was all that mattered to South Shields after watching his side beat promotion rivals Chester-le-Street Town 2-0 at Mariners Park on Saturday.

Shields were solid throughout the game, and won thanks to goals from David Foley and Martyn Coleman to move eight points clear at the top of Ebac Northern League Division Two.

John Grey hailed South Shields’ support as ‘inspiring’ to the players after another bumper crowd watched the Mariners beat Chester-le-Street Town 2-0.

A crowd of 903 was present at Mariners Park as Shields moved eight points clear at the top of Ebac Northern League Division Two.

Grey – an early substitute – set up both of the Mariners’ goals, and was at the heart of many of their moves forward.
